Kristian grew up in Nottingham where he trained at Rachel Clay Academy of Dance, Sarah Simmonds Vocal Coach and was also part of the Television Workshop alumni. At the age of 18 he moved to London to train at the prestigious Urdang Academy, gaining his diploma in Professional Musical Theatre & Dance. Kristian’s career since graduating has spread widely across many areas, from television commercial to theatre, to gigging and photoshoots, to workshops and pantomime. He began ‘KTCo’ back in 2016 where he felt something was missing creatively from his life and wanted to give back into the East Midlands what had been given to him. While running KTCo, Kristian still continues to perform regularly and completes professional performing and creative contracts widening his experience and skillset to able to pass on to his members and youth & dance company.
“I’ve been taught by so many inspiring people throughout my time in the performing arts from Primary School all the way up to my training at Urdang and I wanted to be one of those educators, one of those creative people who get to choreograph, produce, direct and help people develop their skillset.”
Kristian has launched an adult ‘Elite’ company that allows professionals (be it training pros, ex pros or pros out of contracts) and also the top talent around to come together in an intensive professional rehearsal situation and create wonderful productions. He has also since launched classes and the Kristian Thomas Youth Company, a musical theatre group for children aged 10-18 which is expanding further next year. “The KTCo ethos is ‘opportunities to create, to learn and to perform’. I believe we have always held this at the forefront of what we do and as we grow the company further, into new areas of performing arts it will be something that remains imperative. In the last two years KTCo has provided a platform for a number of young people to hone their craft, who have subsequently gone on to train and perform professionally. Alongside this, there are many people who attend our classes with a need to extract the pure joy they gain from performing arts and nothing else. The fact that both of these things can happen side by side and hand in hand all under the KTCo umbrella, is for me, what makes it so special. The KTYCo Company are everything rolled into one. That is the pleasure week in week out. The day we wave a KTYCo alumni off to go to drama school, who has been with us since age 8 and been through every aspect of KTCo, I will feel the greatest sense of pride and achievement that we have helped to craft the chosen life and career path of that child.”
